Dear Abby: One gift or two? Is one wedding gift enough for couples having two weddings?

Greetings, Abby

I know two couples who will soon tie the knot. In the near future, both couples intend to have small, private weddings; eventually, they hope to have bigger, more elaborate nuptials. They all do so for different reasons. When someone hosts two weddings, what is the present policy? Must I also give them a gift for their huge wedding, even though I have already bought something for one couple’s impending modest wedding? Or is one present sufficient for each couple at the little wedding? A GLADING VISITOR IN OHIO

Greetings, Guest:

In honor of the wedding, wedding presents are presented. These buddies are planning an event to take place after their small wedding. Giving the couple two different presents is not required by any etiquette code.
