Former Jets coach — not Rex Ryan — doesn’t dismiss interest in returning

Eric Mangini, another former Jets coach, gently expressed his desire to manage the team once again on Monday, echoing Rex Ryan’s fervent wish.

Turning the Jets franchise around is something Mangini has done before. In 2006, following a dismal 4–12 performance under Herm Edwards the year before, he helped them emerge from the depths of Hades with a 10–6 record.

Would Mangini join Gang Green again? On Colin Cowherd’s FS1 show on Monday, the former coach who is now an NFL analyst wouldn’t rule out the possibility.

Mangini told Colin Cowherd via Awful Announcing, “I just sold my house in New Jersey, so it would make sense, Colin.” I believe it was merely a passage from an article. Obviously, I’m not trying to get the job, but I’m proud of what I accomplished there.

We just had three of the guys I coached enter the Jets Ring of Honor, and I believe we were a tough, intelligent, and disciplined team. I was unaware that Tannenbaum was being brought in to help us reassemble the band. From a vision and principle perspective, there are many things you can do with an organization, just like in any other circumstance, and I am proud of the work I did there.

Last Friday, Dianna Russini of The Athletic proposed that Mangini return to the Meadowlands. The Jets insider said there that Mangini was instrumental in putting together one of the team’s greatest lineups ever.

Mangini brought in Hall of Famer Darrelle Revis, center Nick Mangold, tackle D Brickashaw Ferguson, and general manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Perhaps it’s time to give the man who was once known as Mangenius another chance if the Jets are serious about bringing back someone who is familiar with this organization and can establish a long-lasting foundation, Russini wrote.
