In a recent announcement, Governor Ron DeSantis revealed that Florida successfully evacuated 722 Americans from Haiti. The operation, initiated by the Florida Division of Emergency Management, began on March 20, 2024, in response to political unrest in Haiti.
Governor DeSantis emphasized Florida’s commitment to assisting Americans in need, highlighting the state’s proactive approach despite limited federal cooperation. He expressed pride in the successful evacuation of over 700 individuals from Haiti to Florida.
The Division’s Executive Director, Kevin Guthrie, commended the collaborative efforts of the State Emergency Response Team, private organizations, and nonprofits in facilitating the evacuation process.
He underscored Florida’s readiness to support residents during crises and thanked Governor DeSantis for the opportunity to do so.
Upon their return to Florida, evacuees received assistance from the Division, ensuring access to essential resources such as food, water, medical care, and transportation home.
