Jasmin Thompson, accused of fatally stabbing woman during brawl, arraigned on murder charges

New York’s Staten Island. During Jasmin Thompson’s homicide arraignment on Monday, about six of her family members and friends watched in silence in a St. George courthouse as she was ordered back to jail without posting $250,000 bail.

Days after the New Year, Thompson, 25, was charged with murder and other offenses in connection with the stabbing death of a mother in West Brighton.

Through her attorney, Mario Gallucci, the defendant entered a not guilty plea to the allegations in the state Supreme Court.

Thompson is charged with fatally stabbing 43-year-old Jennira Roundtree and slicing another unidentified female victim after what appears to have been a fight in the West Brighton Houses courtyard on January 7.

In a four-count indictment, Thompson faces charges of first-degree assault, second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

Another individual who was not named in court is the subject of the assault charge.

The small defendant, dressed in gray sweatpants, an orange coat, and a gray shirt, gave her name and acknowledged that Gallucci was her attorney. Throughout the brief proceeding, she remained silent.

Throughout the procedures, relatives watched somberly.

The woman was taken to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton by EMS as well, where authorities confirmed she had been declared dead.

Following the issuance of a wanted for murder poster featuring her face, Thompson turned herself in to the 120th Police Precinct on Monday in relation to the incident.

The victim, Roundtree, was trying to protect her daughter from a fight with twenty young ladies, ages 13 to 25, according to a person familiar with the investigation. Online social media posts are said to have started the altercation.

According to friends, Roundtree has never experienced any issues.

Diamond Brantley, Roundtree’s neighbor and friend, told the Advance/SILive.com that she will stop at nothing to keep her children safe. In order to prevent any drama, she would constantly come out and tell them to go back inside. She never experienced any issues, and I sincerely hope that the person responsible is apprehended.

According to what her relatives said online, Roundtree will be buried on January 19 at a private funeral service.

Thompson is still incarcerated until January 16, when she will appear in court again.
