Jets beat Jags for first win since October as Davante Adams, Aaron Rodgers finally break out

Jacksonville, Florida. For the Jets and Aaron Rodgers, the seventh time was the charm. With the help of his favorite receiver and good friend, Davante Adams, Rodgers was able to lead the team to a game-winning drive in the closing minutes.

The Jets defeated the Jaguars 32–25 thanks to the tantalizing potential of Rodgers and Adams. Even though it was their first victory since October and, of course, it came in their first game after losing the playoffs, it was nevertheless a rare moment of joy in an otherwise terrible season.

In his six prior attempts to lead the Jets to a game-winning drive, including last week’s loss to the Dolphins when their late-game, game-winning field goal was insufficient, Rodgers had failed.

This time, however, was different because of Adams, who ended the Jets’ five-game losing streak and earned them only their second victory since Week 3 with catches of 71 and 41 yards in the final four minutes.

It was actually Rodgers’ second go-ahead drive in the closing minutes of the game, and it was finished by Breece Hall’s one-yard touchdown drive with 1:05 left.

With 3:24 left in the game, he hit Davante Adams for a 71-yard touchdown and then found Adams on the two-point conversion to put the Jets ahead 25-22. However, the lead was short-lived as Mac Jones drove the Jags down the field, and with 1:51 left, Cam Little made a field goal from 43 yards out to knot the score at 25.

This paved the way for additional heroics from Rodgers and Adams during the two-minute warning.

With 1:41 left on third-and-10, the Jets were on the verge of giving the ball back to the Jags, but Adams made another incredible catch on the left sideline for a 23-yard gain to put the Jets ahead of midfield. Additionally, three plays later, on third-and-five from the Jacksonville 42, the Jaguars inexplicably left Adams open once more, allowing him to ramble all the way down to the 1-yard line, which allowed Hall to score the game-winning touchdown for the Jets. In order to score a touchdown on first down with Hall without requiring the Jaguars to use their final two timeouts, the Jets took a chance, but it paid off when Sauce Gardner made his first interception since 2022 by catching a poorly thrown ball by Mac Jones.

Adams had nine catches for 198 yards and two touchdowns, while Rodgers completed 16-of-30 for 289 yards and three touchdowns.

Adams’ 100th career touchdown grab (and Rodgers’ 497th career touchdown pass) gave the Jets a 17–16 lead with 4:33 remaining in the third quarter. However, they were unable to extend their lead, and they were forced to punt when Rodgers misfired on a third-down pass to an open Allen Lazard. With 10:58 remaining in the game, Jones led an eight-play, 73-yard touchdown drive that gave Jacksonville a 22–17 lead (after Jacksonville failed a two-point conversion try). The Jaguars then swiftly took control early in the fourth quarter.

With 7:47 remaining, Anders Carlson missed a 48-yard field goal, horribly to the right, giving the Jags the ball at the 38-yard line and an opportunity to cut the Jets’ lead to two points. With 4:19 left, however, the Jets forced a punt and set up Rodgers from his own 13-yard line, giving him the opportunity to lead the Jets’ first game-winning drive of the fourth quarter.
