N.Y. weather: Meteorologist warns of gusty winds and temperature drop over next several days

New York’s Staten Island. Despite the fact that Monday’s snowfall totals appear to have dealt the borough a somewhat devastating blow, wintry weather is not predicted to depart the area anytime soon due to windy and chilly temperatures.

Bob Larson, a senior meteorologist with AccuWeather, told the Advance/SILive.com that the prediction for tonight is becoming windier and colder because there wasn’t much wind when it was snowing. However, the winds have begun to increase somewhat, and tonight will be windy.

As temperatures fall into the lower 20s, wind speeds are predicted to be between 15 and 25 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph, Larson said.

Since the majority of the main roads have already been cleared and there was no accompanying rainfall, slippery road conditions are not anticipated for the evening, and any moist spots that may still exist are likely to blow dry due to the escalating winds. However, Larson issued a warning that secondary roads that weren’t salted right away might be a little slushy and could turn slick as the temperature drops.

Regarding what locals should anticipate in the coming week, Larson stressed that it would be chilly, with highs only getting close to 30 degrees from Tuesday through Thursday.

According to Larson, there won’t be a significant warmth that encourages melting. However, for the next three days, we may also anticipate some sunshine. Since the region only received an inch of snow, anything exposed to the intense sunlight is likely to melt.

Larson continued by saying that strong winds over the next three days will make it feel much colder. Tuesday and Wednesday are predicted to see winds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts as high as 40 mph.

According to Larson, that will result in daytime temperatures that feel like they are in the teens and nighttime lows of the single digits. The temperature will start to decrease by Friday, reaching around 37 degrees by lunchtime, and the winds will subside to 10 to 20 mph. By the end of the week, it will undoubtedly be much less severe than it will be for the next three days.
