Owners are being cautioned by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) not to give their pets recalled kitten food.
Because of a potential salmonella infection, Blue Ridge Beef is recalling 1,350 pounds of its two-pound log Kitten Mix. Lot number N25-0716, with UPC 8542980013436, is the one that is impacted.
Following consumer concerns of animal disease, the recall was started. On December 12, the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture Resources collected a sample of the product, which the Massachusetts State Public Health Laboratory then examined. Salmonella was found to be present in the sampled product.
Distribution of the merchandise took place from July 18, 2024, until July 26, 2024. In a number of jurisdictions, including New York, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, the product is mostly offered for sale in retail establishments and comes in clear plastic packaging.
Animals that consume the items may get salmonella. Salmonella infections in pets can cause fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or bloody diarrhea, and lethargy. Some pets just have fever, stomach ache, and a decreased appetite. Pets that are infected but otherwise healthy can act as carriers and spread the infection to humans or other animals.
Please get in touch with your veterinarian if your pet has consumed the recalled product and is exhibiting these symptoms.
Handling tainted pet goods poses a risk to people as well, particularly if they haven’t properly cleaned their hands after coming into touch with the products or any surfaces that have come into contact with them.
When infected with salmonella, healthy individuals should keep an eye out for any or all of the following symptoms: fever, cramping in the abdomen, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. More severe conditions include arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle soreness, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms can infrequently be brought on by Salmonella. The FDA advises consumers who experience these symptoms after coming into contact with this product to get in touch with their healthcare professionals.
Customers who have bought this product are advised to either return it to the store or dispose of the food in a way that keeps kids, dogs, and wildlife away.
The recalled products should not be sold or donated, nor should they be fed to pets or other animals.
Always wash and sanitize your hands after handling recalled food or any utensils that come into contact with recalled food, and wash and sanitize pet food bowls, cups, and storage containers.
