LoRa Gen 4 and new transceiver set to power AI-driven, low-power IoT solutions worldwide

Camarillo, Calif., May 9, 2025 — Semtech Corporation (Nasdaq: SMTC), a global leader in high-performance semiconductors and IoT systems, will showcase its next-generation LoRa® technology at the IoT Solutions World Congress (IOTSWC) in Barcelona, May 13–15. As part of the LoRa Alliance’s “Building Massive IoT with LoRaWAN®” program, Semtech will highlight how its innovations are fueling the future of AI-powered, low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) applications.

🌐 Pushing the Boundaries with LoRa Gen 4

At the core of Semtech’s presentation is the LoRa Plus LR2021 transceiver, powered by LoRa Gen 4 technology. The LR2021 supports both terrestrial and satellite communication (SATCOM) across multiple frequency bands, delivering data rates up to 2.6 Mbps at 2.4 GHz and sub-GHz ISM bands.

This advancement is geared toward supporting AI-enabled edge devices that demand low power, long range, and strong signal penetration — a natural evolution for the LoRa ecosystem, which now connects over 410 million end nodes globally.

“LoRaWAN remains the leading LPWAN technology outside of China,” said Shobhit Srivastava, senior principal analyst at Omdia. “With adoption expected to hit 1.3 billion connections by 2030, innovations like LoRa Gen 4 position Semtech at the forefront of the IoT transformation.”

🔍 Demonstrations That Bridge Innovation and Application

Semtech will offer hands-on demos at Booth D9, Hall 8, illustrating how its latest technologies can be deployed across industries:

  • High-Speed Image Transfer: Using LR2021 and SX1280 chips, attendees can see real-time image transfer over LoRa, ideal for security and remote sensing applications.
  • Ranging Capabilities: Devices like the LR1110, LR1120, and SX1280 will demonstrate point-to-point distance measurements for asset tracking and indoor positioning.
  • One-Channel Hub with Dual SF Support: A smart solution for home automation and SMBs, offering greater flexibility and simplified LoRaWAN connectivity.
  • Sustainable IoT with Energy Harvesting: Featuring the LR1121 and Dracula Technologies’ OPV, this setup showcases how energy harvesting can support maintenance-free, low-power IoT systems.

🛡️ Security, Sustainability, and Scalability

Semtech will also highlight LoRaWAN’s role in climate resilience and emergency response. On May 14 at 1:35 p.m., LoRa Alliance board chair and Semtech executive Olivier Beaujard will moderate a panel titled “Safeguarding People and Planet with LoRaWAN.” Topics include wildfire risk assessment, smart irrigation, and even automated shelter openings in war zones.

“Our latest LoRa innovations are reshaping the way industries deploy smart, sustainable IoT solutions,” said Beaujard. “From energy harvesting to high-speed data transfer, LoRa Gen 4 sets a new benchmark.”

🤝 Meet the Experts

Attendees are invited to connect with Semtech’s engineering and ecosystem teams to explore how to integrate LoRa technologies into their own IoT initiatives. Meetings can be scheduled through local Semtech sales representatives.
