Tragedy struck a Newburgh neighborhood on Saturday afternoon when the driver of a FedEx delivery vehicle lost his life in a devastating accident. City of Newburgh police responded promptly to reports of a box truck colliding with a utility pole on Barton Street around 1:30 p.m. on June 15, 2024.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the driver incapacitated and immediately began administering lifesaving measures. Their efforts were supported by firefighters from both the City of Newburgh and the Good Will Fire Department, who swiftly joined in the rescue operation.
Despite the concerted efforts of emergency responders, the driver remained unresponsive. Paramedics continued to provide critical care as they transported him to Montefiore St. Luke’s – Cornwall Hospital. Tragically, medical professionals at the hospital later pronounced the driver deceased.
In response to the accident, City of Newburgh police took quick action to secure the scene, closing off Barton Street to traffic. Their specialized accident reconstruction team was deployed to investigate the circumstances leading to the fatal crash thoroughly.
