Top aide to NYC Mayor Eric Adams resigns months after prosecutors search her home and seize her phones

Less than three months after detectives from the Manhattan district attorney’s office confiscated her phones and searched her home as part of one of the numerous investigations that have engulfed City Hall, a senior adviser to New York Mayor Eric Adams abruptly left.

The resignation of Ingrid Lewis-Martin According to a statement from Adams’ office, Sunday was a scheduled retirement. Arthur Aidala, her lawyer, will speak at a press conference on Monday.

According to Adams, Ingrid has been more than simply a confidante, friend, and valued advisor—she has been a sister. Even though we’ve been planning for this day for a long time, it’s still difficult to realize that Ingrid won’t be living next door every day.

Lewis-Martin’s resignation coincides with federal corruption accusations against Adams and an inquiry into a number of his administration officials.

Adams has been accused of taking illicit campaign contributions and opulent travel benefits from a Turkish official and other foreigners who wanted to purchase his influence. He entered a not guilty plea.

In late September, Manhattan prosecutors, along by federal prosecutors, met Lewis-Martin at an airport in New York as she was disembarking from a flight from Japan, confiscated her phones, and searched her home.

A few hours after the search, Lewis-Martin made the unprecedented decision to speak about the investigation on Aidala’s radio show. She told her lawyer, “I do believe that in the end that the New York City public will see that we have not done anything illegal to the magnitude or scale that requires the federal government and the DA’s office to investigate us.”

One of the mayor’s most dependable and long-serving staffers, Lewis-Martin served under Adams in high-profile capacities during his political career as a state senator, mayor, and borough president of Brooklyn. According to her, she first encountered Adams almost forty years ago while attending the New York City police school with her husband, Glenn Martin.

In a statement released by City Hall, Lewis-Martin said that while working with Adams had been an incredible experience, the time had come for her to retire and devote herself to her lovely family.

To my city: I worked on numerous campaigns after beginning as a community activist and eventually made it to City Hall. I was born and raised in New York, and I adore the city. “Be assured that, as a private citizen, I will keep doing everything within my power to defend this wonderful city every day,” she said.
