Trump wants Gulf of America to replace name of body of water by U.S. and Mexico

PALM BEACH, Fla. — President-elect Donald Trump stated Tuesday that he would not rule out using military force to take over Greenland and the Panama Canal, stating that American national security depends on the United States controlling both.

Trump left open the possibility of using the American military to secure both territories in an interview with reporters less than two weeks before he takes office on January 20 and while a group of advisers and aides, including Donald Trump Jr., is in Greenland. Trump’s plan is a break with decades of American policy that have placed a higher priority on territorial expansion than self-determination.

When asked whether he would rule out the deployment of the military, Trump responded, “I’m not going to commit to that.” Perhaps you will need to take action. Our nation depends on the Panama Canal. “We need Greenland for national security reasons,” he continued.

Denmark, a longtime ally of the United States and a founding member of NATO, owns the autonomous territory of Greenland, which is home to a sizable American military installation. Trump questioned the validity of Denmark’s Greenland claim.

For over 25 years, the nation that has the same name has had exclusive control over the Panama Canal. In 1979, the United States gave back the Panama Canal Zone to the nation, and in 1999, it terminated its cooperative agreement to govern the vital waterway.

Trump had earlier shared a video of his private jet touching down in the capital of the Arctic enclave, Nuuk, surrounded by fjords and snow-capped peaks.

Trump wrote, “Don Jr. and my Reps are landing in Greenland.” It has been well received. They require protection, security, power, and peace, as does the free world! It is imperative that this deal be made. MAGA. RESTORE GREATNESS TO GREENLAND!

The government of Greenland announced in a statement that representatives would not meet with Donald Trump Jr. and that his visit was a private one rather than an official one.

Trump, a Republican, has also suggested that Canada join the US, but he has stated that he would depend on economic pressure rather than military action to accomplish this.

In addition to promising a Golden Age of America, Trump stated that he would attempt to rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America since he thought it had a lovely ring.

A day after President Joe Biden took action to prohibit offshore energy drilling in the majority of federal waters, Trump also used his press conference to warn that Biden was sabotaging his ascent to power.

Biden, whose term ends in two weeks, protected offshore regions along the East and West coasts, the eastern Gulf of Mexico, and parts of Alaska’s Northern Bering Sea from future oil and natural gas leasing by using his authority under the federal Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act. In total, Biden blocked almost 625 million acres of federal waters from oil exploitation, a decision that might need to be reversed by a congressional act.

Trump informed reporters, “I’m going to put it back on day one.” He promised that if necessary, we would take it to court.

Trump said that Biden’s attempt, which was a part of the Democratic administration’s last moves while in power, was undercutting his plans for when he leaves office.

“We’re going to do everything in our power to ensure a seamless transition to the new administration,” Trump added. It isn’t smooth.

However, Biden’s team has given the Trump team access and courtesy that the Republican former president first refused Biden following his election victory in 2020. In a Monday interview with Axios, Trump’s new chief of staff Susie Wiles said Biden chief of staff Jeff Zients had been a huge assist.

Trump also blasted special counsel Jack Smith’s work in lengthy remarks. Smith supervised now-dropped prosecutions for his involvement in the Capitol’s Jan. 6 uprising and his possession of secret information after leaving office in 2021. After Trump’s victory in November forced the criminal prosecutions to end, Smith is anticipated to soon submit a report to the Justice Department summarizing his findings.
