21 must-try new restaurants on Staten Island

New York’s Staten Island. We investigate the excitement taking place in the borough’s kitchens every Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. They are frequently brand-new companies, but occasionally they are oldies with a twist, like LaStrada in New Dorp and Jade Island in New Springville.

Billy Manor, the owner and mixologist, refers to his new business as a gastropub-style modern American eatery. His goal is to combine his expertise in drinks with food from a former Fig & Vine and, before that, Ni-Ni’s Cafe.

The modest Italian restaurant and pizza parlor, which was moved from Lincoln Avenue, has a Peter Botros-inspired atmosphere reminiscent of a small-town diner.

Mediterranean fare sprinkled with lots of good olive oil and a menu heavy on the seafood in a room that makes one feel as if he or she is dining on a cruise ship. The craftsmanship here is wonderful with whole fish broken down fresh to order or filleted at the table, a lost art. Almost all foods are made from scratch, attention to detail is top notch and customer service is outstanding.
