According to a notification Walmart filed with the state of Alabama, employee layoffs may follow the closure of a Walmart location only days before Christmas.
On December 20, Walmart will close its neighborhood market store located at 4226 Northwest Oakwood Avenue in Huntsville.
According to the Alabama Department of Commerce, the corporation announced in a WARN notice released to the public last week that 80 layoffs are planned. Large enterprises are required by federal law to notify the public in advance of major layoffs or factory closures.
A request for comment on Walmart’s impending layoffs was not answered.
Previously, Walmart communications director Lindsey Coulter stated that all employees in the store will be eligible for a move. Additionally, Coulter stated that their payment would continue until March 7, 2025.
According to a recent announcement from Coulter, this decision was not made hastily and was only made following a thorough and deliberate assessment process.
