After the death of Jimmy Carter, who is the oldest living former U.S. president?

Four previous presidents are still alive after Jimmy Carter passed away on Sunday at the age of 100.

Who is the oldest, though?

We are aware that the youngest former president still alive is Barack Obama, 63, who was born on August 4, 1961, and served as president from 2009 to 2017.

The only surviving former American president of the 20th century is Bill Clinton, who was born on August 19, 1946, and served from 1993 to 2001. He is currently 78 years old.

George W. Bush, who was born on July 6, 1946, and served as president from 2001 to 2009, is 78 years old and somewhat older than Clinton by over a month.

Furthermore, it is true that Donald Trump, the current and past president, is 78 years old. He was born on June 14, 1946, making him the oldest former president.

However, Joe Biden, who is eighty-two, will become the oldest living U.S. president when Trump returns to the oval office on January 20. He still has a few years left to surpass or even tie Carter’s record. On November 20, 2042, Biden will turn 100.

The longest-lived American president

The longest-serving American president was Jimmy Carter, well known as the peanut farmer who was elected president following the Watergate affair and the Vietnam War. According to The Carter Center, he passed away on Sunday, almost a year after receiving hospice care in his hometown of Plains, Georgia, where he and his wife, Roselynn, who passed away at the age of 96 in November 2023, lived the majority of their life.

The center posted on social media site X to announce the passing of its founder, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who died this afternoon in Plains, Georgia. He passed away quietly, with his family by his side, the statement added.

President Joe Biden lamented Carter’s passing as responses flooded in from all around the world, stating that he had lost a close friend and that the world had lost an amazing leader, statesman, and humanitarian. Carter’s efforts to end disease, create peace, advance civil and human rights, support free and fair elections, house the homeless, and advocate for the underprivileged were all noted by Biden as examples of his compassion and moral clarity.
