Apologetic Staten Island gas station bandit, 56, now headed to prison

New York’s Staten Island. An ex-con is going to prison for committing a violent robbery at a Great Kills petrol station last year.

In relation to the Sept. 19 incident, Joseph Perilli, 56, of Trantor Place in Elm Park, entered a guilty plea to third-degree robbery in the state Supreme Court, St. George, last week.

Justice Lisa Grey is set to sentence him to two to four years in prison on January 30 in exchange for his plea.

Thomas Patrick Reilly, the defendant’s lawyer, chose not to comment.

The case was prosecuted for the Richmond County District Attorney’s Office by Assistant District Attorney Arda Ozdinc.

In September, police were called to a Citgo in Great Kills after receiving a report of a robbery at the outside booth that had wounded a worker. (Maps on Google)Maps on Google

Booth robbed, worker injured

According to police in a criminal complaint, the incident happened at a Citgo gas station near Elverton Avenue and Arthur Kill Road at approximately 5:40 p.m.

Prosecutors said that Perilli stole hundreds of dollars from the cash register by breaking into an outside booth at the scene.

According to authorities, Perilli punched the 46-year-old guy in the face, causing swelling and severe agony in his mouth, as a worker attempted to stop him from running off with the money.

I apologize for the inconvenience

Weeks later, authorities found Perilli and presented him the surveillance film they had collected for the case.

According to the criminal complaint, Perilli told investigators, “That’s me.” I can’t remember what you’re discussing. I’m sorry for the trouble, but I was also attacked.

Ferry terminal incident

In addition, Perilli faces misdemeanor charges of harassment and violence related to an incident that occurred at the St. George Ferry Terminal on August 3, 2023.

According to the police, he flung a plastic Coke bottle that hit a woman in the ear.

According to court filings, Perilli said, “I’m sorry,” when officers asked him about the event.

According to court documents, the case was postponed to January 23 at Criminal Court.

Before his most recent legal troubles, Perilli had been found guilty in a number of crimes, including the 2016 Manhattan felony sale of a prohibited narcotic.

With malicious intent : D.A.

Last Monday, Michael E. McMahon, the district attorney, said in a statement that the defendant entered the Great Kills gas station with malicious intent.

Thankfully, just two weeks after the terrifying event, NYPD officers were able to identify, track down, and apprehend this dangerous defendant with the aid of video surveillance, the statement added.

We applaud our NYPD partners for their prompt investigative efforts and Assistant District Attorney Arda Ozdinc for upholding our office’s commitment to hold violent offenders accountable in court and obtaining a multi-year prison sentence. Vicious attacks against our business community will never be tolerated.
