According to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic, teams have inquired about infielder Oswaldo Cabrera’s availability with the Yankees.
The Yankees changed their strategy after losing out on Juan Soto and signed Paul Goldschmidt, Max Fried, Devin Williams, and Cody Bellinger. However, there are still concerns about their infield position.
Cabrera has been viewed as a potential candidate to either cover the void at second base or become the team’s regular third baseman. To strengthen their infield, which had defensive difficulties in 2024, the team may instead choose to add another veteran, according to recent speculations.
Gavin Lux, who was traded by the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Cincinnati Reds, San Diego Padres contact genius Luis Arraez, and free agents Brendan Rodgers and Jorge Polanco have all been connected to the Yankees in recent days.

However, Cabrera, who had 326 plate appearances, hit 247/.296/.365 with eight home runs and 36 RBI, might still be available for New York.
Kuty noted, “He’s looked solid enough at [third base] in the majors.”But the Yankees appreciate that he can also fill in at shortstop and second base.
The 25-year-old Cabrera, who won’t be a free agent until 2025, can also play in the corner outfield positions.
The switch-hitting Cabrera has been working hard this winter to re-establish himself as a danger from the right side of the plate as well, according to Kuty. He was mostly used by the Yankees as a left-handed hitter, even while facing left-handed pitchers.
