New York’s Staten Island — One of the biggest car dealerships in New York City will shortly be built on a sizable plot of long-vacant Hylan Boulevard commercial real estate. The former ShopRite shop at the intersection of Locust Avenue in New Dorp will soon be replaced with a 50,000-square-foot Toyota sales and servicing center, according to Island Auto Group.
According to Marcello Sciarrino, co-owner of Island Auto Group, one of the biggest multi-franchise sales and service organizations in the Northeast, “this project is very exciting for us, not only because we will build the largest sales and service building for Toyota in the NYC metro [but] it now triggers many other moves for us.” In order to better serve our community, we are also planning to relocate and renovate a number of our other nine dealerships on Staten Island.
The new dealership, which is situated at 2424 Hylan Blvd., will sell and service both new and used cars in more than 40 new car bays. Sciarrino predicted that it would open in the spring of 2026 and bring another 60 to 70 jobs.
That’s something we’re proud of,” he added. The Staten Island community will benefit greatly from this, in my opinion.
The new location takes the place of the original ShopRite, which closed its doors in 2020 after moving to The Boulevard shopping mall, which was less than half a mile away.
According to Sciarrino, he has been securing the property for a number of years by working with Kimco Realty, a Long Island-based company that owns the property. He had to submit rezoning applications to the NYC Board of Standards and Appeals (BSA) to obtain permission to conduct both sales and service operations on the property. According to him, the outcome of their efforts will be a peaceful, well-kept institution that should appeal to its neighbors.
According to Sciarrino, ShopRite served about 1,500 customers per day and was open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. This application will have a significantly lower density. Additionally, we’re working hard to make the area more aesthetically pleasing by installing a ton of plants and bushes as well as soft LED lighting.
According to Sciarrino, the new build is the first phase of Island Auto Group’s little makeover.
According to Sciarrino, we will be relocating our Jeep service department to a new standalone service center, expanding our service area from 5,000 square feet to nearly 20,000 square feet and adding 15 more service bays. Additionally, we will be moving our Hyundai and Subaru sales and showrooms to Hylan Boulevard.
The car business is expanding its waiting spaces, adding more onsite parking, and adding more than 60 service bays across all of its brands.
“As a resident of Staten Island, I am genuinely integrated into this community,” Sciarrino said. We’re thrilled to be growing our company in this way and giving our neighbors more options for sales and services.
