Blizzard conditions in U.S. forecast as massive winter storm will hit multiple regions of country

Over half of the United States will be devastated tomorrow by a major winter storm.

The National Weather Service says that tonight and tomorrow, a massive storm that includes snow, wind, and ice, as well as thunderstorms and tornadoes if you’re in the lower Mississippi Valley, will impact the Central Plains and Midwest region all the way to the East Coast.

New York City, including Staten Island, is bracing for a two-inch worst-case scenario. A freezing storm is expected to hit our region tomorrow morning, prompting the issuance of a winter weather advisory for New York City.

With gusts of at least 40 miles per hour, the storm will begin to affect areas like Kansas and Missouri tonight. When you add the snow, you have a blizzard, according to the NWS.

Expect anywhere from six inches to a foot of snow to fall in Southern Ohio and Washington, D.C.

The NWS predicted that winds across the remainder of the Ohio Valley will be between 20 and 25 miles per hour, which is less severe than in other states. It goes without saying that visibility outside will be hampered by the wind and snow.

Ice sleet and rain will batter parts of West Virginia and Kentucky, with hazardous ice accumulations predicted to surpass 0.25 inches. The same conditions, while with less impact, are anticipated for certain areas of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Virginia, and North Carolina: roughly between 0.10 and 0.25 inches.

Severe thunderstorms with the potential to produce tornadoes and destructive straight-line winds are expected to threaten Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi tonight. By morning, the threat is expected to spread to southern Georgia and northern Florida.

Large portions of the East Coast and the Great Plains region will see a severe freeze on Monday and Tuesday, with daily highs approximately 10 to 20 degrees below normal.
