New York’s Staten Island — Chief Warrant Officer 4 Adelaide S. Borders is retiring from the U.S. Army next month after 31 years of service, and Borough President Vito Fossella recently organized an emotional farewell ceremony at Borough Hall for him.
A sizable contingent of relatives, friends, and community members attended the ceremony, which honored Borders’ exceptional service and commitment to the country.
Originally from Staten Island, Borders has had an incredible military career that has brought her both domestically and overseas. In addition to overseas deployments in South Korea, she has held positions in Kansas, Virginia, and Washington.
She worked with the 20th Engineer Brigade at Fort Liberty, North Carolina, as the senior logistics warrant officer for her last assignment.
Fossella highlighted Borders’ dedication to serve the country by presenting her with an official retirement certificate and a citation during the tearful event.
According to Fossella, the liberties we enjoy today are due to the American soldier and other military members who have worn the uniform. This woman has been proud of the uniform, what it stands for, and what is representative of this nation for more than 30 years.
Many of Borders’ family members attended the event and spoke tales of her loyalty and dependability in both her personal and professional life. Her constant devotion to all of her endeavors was reflected by her family and friends, demonstrating her dedication to serve her nation and her loved ones.
In her parting speech, Borders reciprocated the emotion by thanking her family and coworkers. “I am overwhelmed with emotion as I stand in front of you today, marking my retirement from the United States Army after 31 years of devoted service,” she remarked. It’s full circle now.
“We thank Chief Warrant Officer Borders for her long history of dedicated service to our nation and embodying what makes this nation great sacrifice, courage, and selflessness,” Fossella said as he concluded the event, expressing gratitude to Borders for her steadfast devotion and unselfish service.
