Bread crumbs recalled: Over 32,000 food products could cause life-threatening reaction

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released a warning recalling more than 32,000 bread crumbs due to serious or life-threatening responses to consumers.

According to the recall notice, La Fiesta Food Products is recalling 8-ounce packets of Unseasoned Bread Crumbs (Pan Rayado) and Seasoned Bread Crumbs (Pan Rayado Sazonado) under the La Fiesta brand because they contain sesame, an unreported allergy.

The following items are part of the recall:

  • La Fiesta brand Bread Crumbs (Pan Rayado) 8oz UPC#032327000886 – Lot codes 26032; 26073; 26082; 26092; 26094. There were 26,400 sold nationwide through distributors to retail stores from April 10, 2024, through Jan. 22, 2025.

  • La Fiesta brand Bread Crumbs Seasoned (Pan Rayado Sazonado) 8oz UPC#032327000887 – Lot codes 26094; 26123. There were 6,240 sold nationwide through distributors to retail stores from Aug. 29, 2024, through Jan. 22, 2025.

The front of the packaging is marked with the lot code. Eight-ounce clear plastic bags with a printed label affixed are used to package the product.

Consuming these goods puts people who are allergic to sesame or have a significant sensitivity to it at risk for a severe or fatal allergic reaction.

To date, no illnesses have been reported.

After it was discovered that the product included undeclared sesame, a recall was issued; however, more research showed that the problem was caused by mistakes on the product label.

Customers who have already bought the products are encouraged to return them for a complete refund to the store where they were bought.

Customers can reach the company by email at [email protected] or by calling 408-326-0487.
