Carson Wentz, next Giants quarterback? Former NFL MVP likes the idea

The Giants’ 45-33 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday left them in an odd position.

It became more challenging for them to acquire one of the top two quarterbacks, Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, when the victory pushed them to fourth place in the 2025 NFL Draft order. In order to choose (or acquire) their franchise quarterback in 2026, they will now need a different quarterback strategy for the upcoming campaign.

Boomer Esiason, the former NFL MVP and host of WFAN, shared his thoughts on the Giants’ next season on Friday.

Through Audacy, Esiason stated, “Go out and find a Kirk Cousins or a Carson Wentz.” Look for a cheap person who can fill the void and worry about it next year.

Sanders and Ward don’t appeal to Esiason, who doesn’t think they’re deserving of the first and second picks in the draft. He was one of the few people who said on Thursday that the Giants should be grateful for their victory against the Colts on Sunday because they won’t have to worry about selecting a quarterback. Sanders and Ward will probably be selected before New York picks.

Esiason continued, “At this time, I don’t see anyone on this board who is worth what it would take to get them.” Let’s assume that they do wind up with Cam Ward. Is he going to be Anthony Richardson, CJ Stroud, or Jayden Daniels?

The Giants will acquire a quarterback who was run out of Philadelphia and has appeared in 12 games (eight starts) over the last three seasons if they follow Esiason’s recommendation and sign Wentz. Wentz has 1,938 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions while going 191-for-302, or 63.2%, over that time.

Although they would be a more desirable option, cousins might prevent a high 2026 draft pick.
