Cheese recall by New Jersey company due to potential listeria contamination

Due to a possible listeria contamination, several of the cheesy, gooey, and ooey treats that cheddar aficionados enjoy are being recalled.

Abbey Specialty Foods, located in Fairfield, New Jersey, revealed on Friday that two of its products—the Wicklow Gold Cheddar Tomato & Herb and the Wicklow Gold Cheddar Nettle & Chive—may be contaminated with the foodborne illness.

The recall requests that consumers who bought the odorous cheese either throw it in the garbage or return it to the grocery shop where they got it for a refund, even though there have been no complaints of anybody becoming sick from the cheeses.

The FDA states that listeria is an organism that can infect small children, the elderly, and others with compromised immune systems, leading to serious and occasionally deadly diseases. [a] Listeria infections can result in miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women, even though healthy people may only experience transient symptoms including a high temperature, intense headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea.

Note that Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Ohio were among the states where the impacted cheeses were sold.
