New York’s Staten Island — More than 44,000 wireless Christmas light controllers are being recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) because they have the potential to overheat when connected into an electrical outlet and ignite a fire.
To activate tree lights for the holidays, use these wireless decorative light controls. The two primary components of the controllers under recall are a switch for turning on and off the lights and a separate receiver for plugging in a light strand.
According to the CPSC notice, Mr. Christmas LLC, located in Memphis, Tennessee, has recalled approximately 44,600 light controllers after 10 were reported to have overheated and one to have caught fire.
No injuries have been recorded as of yet.
Between July 2024 and November 2024, the recalled controllers were offered for sale both in-person and online at Walmart, Target, and Cracker Barrels locations around the country. The controller cost between $25 and $40, depending on the store.
The controller that Walmart and Cracker Barrel sell is shaped like a peppermint candy and has the words “Christmas Light Controller” printed on the side. It also has a candy cane on/off switch.
The Target version is square, with green, red, and white light balls on the front, and an on/off switch. Along the side are the words “Tree Lighting Switch.”
Anyone who bought an impacted light controller is being advised by the CPSC to stop using it right now and return it to the retailer for a complete refund.
