Commuter alert: Snow and ice cause slippery conditions on roads in New York City

New York’s Staten Island. The Monday morning rush hour on Staten Island and throughout New York City presents a number of problems, including snow and ice, for drivers and pedestrians making their way to public transportation.

The Con Edison website reports that more than 70 people are without power on Staten Island’s South Shore.

According to AccuWeather.com, the temperature is still a few degrees below freezing during the early morning rush hour, making some areas of the roads and walkways slick.

The good news is that AccuWeather.com predicts that the temperature will gradually rise to 45 degrees in our borough, melting the ice and snow.

According to a special weather statement from the National Weather Service, any untreated surfaces are icy and thus slippery with temperatures at or below freezing. Be cautious, slow down, and allow additional time to get to your destination if you’re traveling.

AccuWeather.com predicts Monday will be a combination of sun and clouds with light breezes.
