Costco recall: These medicines may be contaminated

Due to possible contamination, Costco has recalled its Kirkland Signature Severe Cold & Flu Plus Congestion pills.

Check your medicine cabinet for the treatment, which comes with both daytime and overnight pills, if you have been fighting the flu this season.

Packages bearing item number 1729556 that were sold between October 30 and November 30, 2024, are subject to the recall. Look for the lot code P140082 on the back of the box to find out if your product is impacted.

The recall was started by pharmaceutical company LNK International, Inc. because of possible foreign material contamination in a certain lot code that was inadvertently transported and released.

The recall was issued soon after Costco recalled over 10,000 organic egg cartons because of salmonella concerns.

Additionally, it coincides with a nationwide surge in viral diseases, which is typical at this time of year. The flu season in the United States usually lasts from October to May, with December and February seeing the highest levels of flu activity.

According to the New York State Flu Tracker, Staten Island has the highest rate of hospitalization for the flu this 2024–2025 season when compared to the rest of New York City.

In late October 2024, the number of flu cases on the Island started to surpass that of the previous year. Since mid-November, the difference has gradually increased, with this year’s instances much exceeding those of last year as the season goes on.
