Cucumber recall: Throw out this vegetable sold in 26 states, including N.Y.

New York and parts of Canada are among the 26 states where SunFed Produce LLC is recalling whole fresh American cucumbers of various sizes.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is recalling cucumbers that were sold between October 12 and November 26 because of the possibility of salmonella infection.

Salmonella is a bacteria that can infect young infants, the elderly, those with compromised immune systems, and others, causing serious and occasionally fatal infections.

To avoid consuming recalled entire fresh American cucumbers, consumers should check to determine whether the product has been recalled and discard or destroy it.

The following states are implementing a recall of the impacted SunFed cucumbers:

  • Alaska

  • Arizona

  • Arkansas

  • California

  • Colorado

  • Connecticut

  • Florida

  • Idaho

  • Illinois

  • Indiana

  • Kansas

  • Maryland

  • Massachusetts

  • Minnesota

  • Missouri

  • New Jersey

  • New York

  • North Carolina

  • Oklahoma

  • Pennsylvania

  • Tennessee

  • Texas

  • Utah

The FDA informed SunFed Produce LLC that they were receiving reports of salmonellosis disease, which prompted the business to start the recall.

For over 30 years, SunFed has prioritized consumer health and wellness as well as food safety. Craig Slate, president of SunFed, stated, “We demand that all of our growers adhere to the FDA’s food safety regulations to the letter.”

Additionally, SunFed is informing all of its direct purchasers about the recall. This recall does not involve any other goods that SunFed sells or farms that supply SunFed.
