Dear Abby: Why is she sending me mementos from her past with my dad?

Greetings, Abby

For a number of years, my father was in a relationship. Five years ago or so, she ended her relationship with him. We communicate with her through Christmas cards because she’s a nice lady. She recently texted me to let me know that she would be sending me a box filled with images from their relationship and other memorabilia. I didn’t have time to reply because I was out on business.

She just texted me to inquire if I had received the shoebox, which arrived this morning. Since the relationship was between my father and her, I honestly think this was inappropriate. She ought to have sent the things to him instead, in my opinion. What should I say? Just the son wearing the new jersey

DEAR ONLY THE SON:

Tell the woman that the parcel has arrived in response. It’s possible that she sent it to you in order to avoid having any further direct contact with your father. Call your dad, explain that his ex-girlfriend sent you the souvenirs, and then ask him if he wants them or if he would rather you throw them away. Then, do as he says.
