‘Dumpster fire’ banner flies over New York Giants game at MetLife Stadium

New York City as a whole or just one person seems to be tired of the New York Giants.

A small plane buzzed over the MetLife Stadium and its tailgating throng before today’s Giants game at 1 p.m., carrying a placard that read, “Mr. Maara, please fix this dumpster fire.”

Even ABC Sports Anchor Ryan Field tweeted, “The people have spoken,” after the banner went popular on social media.

This morning, a sign that read, “Mr. Mara enough, please fix this dumpster fire,” flew over MetLife. The populace has spoken.#Twitter.com/y786USrXwD #Giants100pic

The third-generation owner of Big Blue, John Mara, is the Mr. Mara to whom the banner alludes.

The New York Post reports that the plane reached the stadium approximately one and a half hours prior to today’s kickoff.

A sad season

In 2024, the Giants will celebrate their 100th anniversary, although their record does not match the historic achievement. As of this writing, a miserable 2 wins and 10 loses this season could turn into 11 losses.

In their matchup with the New Orleans Saints today, the Giants fell behind at halftime, with the Saints leading 7 to 3.

According to the Post, this is not the first time an unhappy fan has flown a flag over the Giants.

When a plane flew a banner that said, “15 YEARS OF LOUSY FOOTBALL – WE’VE HAD ENOUGH,” during the third quarter of a Giants Stadium game against the Cardinals in 1978, it was the last time a banner with such scathing comments from irate fans floated overhead, according to the Post.
