Earthquakes Shake Southern California This Past Weekend!

Southern California experienced a sequence of seismic activity over the weekend. Three distinct earthquakes shook the region, causing mild to moderate tremors across several counties.

The largest of these earthquakes, measuring 3.6 magnitude on the Richter scale, struck west of Salton City, near the border of San Diego and Imperial counties. Occurring at a depth of 10.6 km, the quake occurred at 12:17 p.m. on Sunday and was centered approximately 8 miles southwest of Salton City. Residents in northern San Diego County, Salton City, and around Cathedral City reported experiencing weak to light shaking, according to the USGS shake map.

In addition to the Salton City event, a 2.5 magnitude earthquake occurred around 4 miles west-northwest of Borrego Springs at 5:32 a.m. on Sunday. This earthquake, though smaller, was felt in the immediate vicinity, with localized reports confirming the tremors.

Earlier on Saturday night, a 2.9 magnitude earthquake struck at 11:20 p.m., approximately 3 miles southeast of Redlands, California. This earthquake was more widely felt across San Bernardino and Riverside counties, based on reports compiled by the USGS.

Despite the seismic activity, there have been no reports of significant damage or injuries resulting from these earthquakes. However, they serve as a reminder of the region’s susceptibility to seismic events due to its proximity to major fault lines.
