FBI is officially investigating Staten Island drones

New York’s Staten Island. After drones started to show up in New Jersey skies last month, the FBI formally extended its drone probe to Staten Island.

Both locals and political authorities are concerned about the 15-foot-long drones that have been skulking around the municipality for days.

Along with other public and private organizations, Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island/South Brooklyn) attended yesterday’s Homeland Security hearing of the House Committee on the mysterious drones.

Last week, she first demanded an official probe and a temporary ban on drone flights.

The FBI is spearheading the fact-finding effort to determine what these drones are doing and who they belong to, and other state agencies, including the NYPD, have not provided them with any updates on the investigation this weekend, a Malliotakis office representative confirmed on Monday.

The fact that no one can determine who is operating these drones, where they are coming from, or why they are there is strange and rather strange. According to reports, some of the drones might be operating without a transponder, which raises questions about their location, Borough President Vito Fossella stated last week.

Users speculated about the drones as dozens of posts to social media and the Ring Doorbell app’s Neighbors feature inundated the internet.

Some claim that these are spy drones from enemies abroad, similar to the Chinese spy balloon incident in 2023. Some believe these are the start of a new drone program by our military. Some even claimed that the group behind these enigmatic aircrafts was Men in Black, a 1997 movie.

As of yet, no definitive solution has been found.

The drones have been spotted over military installations such as Picatinny Arsenal Military Base in New Jersey, Brooklyn’s Fort Hamilton, and Staten Island’s Fort Wadsworth. Additionally, they are inspecting the Bedminster Golf Club, which is owned by President-elect Donald Trump.

Flight restrictions have been implemented by the Federal Aviation Administration over Trump’s golf club and Picatinny Arsenal Military Base, but not yet over Staten Island.
