New York’s Staten Island. Authorities claim that a significant stash of cocaine and fentanyl was found during an NYPD raid after the contraband were mailed to a Great Kills residence.
A law enforcement source said that more than two kilograms of cocaine and over fifty packets of fentanyl were found during an internal U.S. Postal Service investigation into drugs being sent in the mail.
Authorities with search warrants surrounded the residence on Colon Avenue close to Amboy Road on December 27 at approximately 1:20 p.m., including officers from Narcotics Borough Staten Island, the criminal complaint said.
In relation to the raid on their residence, police detained women Chantel Abreu, 31, and Nicolette English, 34, as well as twins Ryan and Richard Gonzalez, 33.
A 15-count indictment against the Gonzalez twins claims that they sold heroin and carfentanil, a potent synthetic opioid, to an undercover investigator in August in addition to being charged in the December raid.
According to court filings, some of the drug transactions took place in Eltingville, a nearby hamlet.
The majority of unintentional overdoses in Staten Island, the rest of New York City, and the country are caused by fentanyl, an opioid that is up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine. Fentanyl has totally flooded the illegal drug market.
According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, carfentanil is a synthetic opioid that is roughly 10,000 times more strong than morphine and 100 times more toxic than fentanyl.
Raid on home
According to the complaint, authorities were granted permission to search a postal package that had a label stating it was sent to the defendants’ residence from Aguada, Puerto Rico.
The lawsuit claims that during the raid, the defendants had cocaine and fentanyl with the intention of selling.
Officers claim to have discovered packaging, scales, and balances—items commonly used in the production and distribution of drugs.
Criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and criminal use of drug paraphernalia are the charges against all four defendants.
Additional charges of illicit selling of a prohibited narcotic were brought against the twins. That charge does not apply to the female defendants.
Public documents show that the Gonzalez twins have been remanded to Rikers Island and are scheduled to be arraigned in the state Supreme Court in St. George on Wednesday.
The Gonzalez twins have no counsel listed in public records.
According to public records, Abreu and English have entered not guilty pleas to all counts, been released on their own recognizance, and are expected to appear in St. George’s Criminal Court on February 25.
Abreu’s attorney, Marion Campbell, chose not to comment at this time.
Patrick Parrotta supported his client English’s innocence.
The grand jury has not indicted my client, Nicolette English, and I plan to settle her case at the lower Criminal Court using the evidence gathered from the investigation, Parrotta stated.
