2024’s Top Attractions on Staten Island: Joe Pendergast
His narrative in brief:
FDNY fireman Joe Pendergast was traveling from his home on Staten Island to Ladder 113 in Brooklyn on May 31 at around 7:30 a.m.
Pendergast, 33, who was still off duty, noticed smoke emanating from an apartment complex.
According to an FDNY spokesperson, an e-bike was on fire in one of the building’s living rooms, and a tenant was trying to get his dogs out of the second level.
A second e-bike detonated close to the entryway after Pendergast yelled for the occupant to leave.
According to the FDNY, Pendergast burned his arm when he closed the door to try to confine the fire.
The four dogs were saved as a result of Pendergast’s valiant efforts. In the end, another 60 firefighters arrived on the site to put out the fire.
