Ford issues massive recall of diesel trucks over fuel pump failure

New York’s Staten Island — A recall has been issued by the Ford Motor Company for a number of well-known diesel car models.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford has recalled some of its diesel work truck models manufactured between 2020 and 2022 due to fuel system problems, potentially affecting approximately 295,400 customers.

The problematic component is a section of the trucks’ fuel pump system, which can malfunction due to biodiesel deposits forming on high pressure fuel pump parts. NHTSA-filed materials state that this can result in a power outage while driving and cause an accident.

The 2020–2022 F-Super Duty F250, F350, F450, F550, and F600 as well as the 2021–2022 F-650 and F750 trucks are among the vehicles impacted by the recall.

Every vehicle that was part of the recall had a 6.7L diesel engine.

Additionally, the automaker said that trucks affected by this could have reduced engine power, noise, a check engine light, and an extended crank while starting the engine.

The NHTSA has stated that Ford dealers will update the powertrain control module software to fix the problem.

Beginning on January 13, affected owners will get mail notifications. Owners can call Ford customer support at 1-866-436-7332 to find out if their vehicle is impacted.

To find out whether their vehicle is impacted by the recall, drivers can also contact the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
