A seasoned southpaw who had some time with the Yankees the previous two seasons has moved on as they continue to look for a left-handed reliever to add to their all-righty bullpen before spring training starts next month.
According to Darren Wolfson of KSPT in St. Paul, Minnesota, free agent Anthony Misiewicz has agreed to a minor league contract with the Twins, as reported on X.
Misiewicz’s two seasons with the Yankees, including eight days and four relief appearances, will stick in your memory.
eerie, unforgettable.
He is the player who, on September 15, 2023, while pitching in a Yankees-Pirates game in Pittsburgh, was struck in the head by a liner traveling at 100 miles per hour. Less than a week after being called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he suffered a concussion that terminated his season.
Misiewicz returned to the Yankees for two days in mid-June after re-signing with them on a minor-league contract last winter.
In his first bullpen appearance of the season, he gave up two hits and walked a player in a scoreless inning before being farmed out the next day.
The majority of past season was spent with Scranton by 30-year-old Misiewicz. He pitched 55.1 innings in 47 appearances, going 3-2 with a 3.90 ERA, eight saves, 69 strikeouts, and 18 walks. He
In 2023, Misiewicz’s third organization was the Yankees. Before being relegated to Triple-A and joining the Yankees on a waiver claim in July, he pitched seven times for Detroit and once for Arizona.
In five seasons with the Mariners (2020–22), Royals (2022), Diamondbacks (2023), Tigers (2023), and Yankees (2023–24), the suburban Detroit native has a career 4.67 ERA over 131 appearances.
The Yankees’ 40-man roster does not include any left-handers.
Tim Hill is a free agent left-hander who they are interested in re-signing, but they haven’t been able to come to an agreement yet.
After being released by the White Sox on June 18 after pitching 27 games with a 5.87 ERA, Hill, 34, signed with the Yankees two days later and pitched 35 games for them with a 2.05 ERA.
Hill was allegedly a target for the Mets, but since they acquired free agent left-hander A.J. Minter on Friday, that is most likely no longer the case.
Free agents Andrew Chafin and Brooks Raley, who played for the Mets for the last two seasons, are two more left-handed bullpen options for the Yankees.
