Free Staten Island program to explain Social Security benefits application process

New York’s Staten Island. On Wednesday, February 12, there will be a free information night at the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) NYC Staten Island about how to apply for Social Security benefits.

The event will be held at Richmond University Medical Center’s Sipp Auditorium, located at 355 Bard Ave., West Brighton, from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be hosted by Sonya Keyser, an attorney with Keyser & Associates.

Attendees will learn how to increase their chances of getting benefits and what to do in the event that they are refused them.

Long-term and short-term disability, disability pensions, disability retirement, appeals, reviews, and overpayments are some of the subjects to be covered in relation to the frequently challenging procedure.

No RSVP is required, and the event is open to everyone.

The largest grassroots mental health group in the country is called NAMI.

NAMI NYC Staten Island was established in 1987 to assist Staten Islanders in navigating the mental health system and locating the tools necessary to lead fulfilling lives.

It provides the public with a range of free programs and services, such as advocacy training, educational courses, and support groups.

The group also seeks to lessen stigma and increase knowledge about mental illness. For many residents of Staten Island who are impacted by mental illness, NAMI NYC Staten Island serves as a lifeline and is an essential part of the community.

You can text the NAMI hotline to 62640, phone 800-950-6264, or chat online to get in touch with them. In an emergency, call SMS 988.
