New York’s Staten Island — Have you yet been browse the Staten Island Hobby Lobby’s aisles or put a coin in a cart at the first Aldi in the borough? This past year, a number of fresh and creative companies have opened their doors on Staten Island, delivering a variety of new experiences and flavors.
Here are a few of the largest retailers and businesses planning to open a borough location in 2024:
The Hobby Lobby
In March, the enormous craft store formally introduced its project materials and tacky holiday goods to the borough. The Staten Island location is the retailer’s first store in New York City and is situated across from the Staten Island Mall in New Springville. It contains custom picture framing, fabric, jewelry-making supplies, a floral department, wedding supplies, cards, party ware, baskets, wearable art, holiday merchandise, decorations, toys, and more.
Aldi
In September, the low-cost supermarket chain, which is well-known for its exclusive store brands and discounted prices, launched its first location in Staten Island at Greenridge Plaza.At the grand opening ceremony, hundreds of shoppers waited for hours in order to receive a golden ticket gift card. At the moment, Aldi has over 2,000 stores spread over 36 states, with the majority of them located in the eastern portion of the nation. The business said in October that it was building a second site in New Dorp, Staten Island.
Five Below and Homegoods
Homegoods established its third Staten Island outlet in the Bricktown Center at Charleston shortly after discount retailer Five Below opened its fourth borough store there in July. The retailers collectively occupy about 34,000 square feet of shop space.
Burlington grows
The off-price department store Burlington, which is well-known for its heavily reduced brand-name products, formally launched its third site on Staten Island in March.Situated in the former Toys R Us location of the Pergament Mall on Richmond Avenue, the store offers a variety of men’s and women’s clothing as well as home décor, footwear, and children’s clothing. This past fall, the Tysens Park Shopping Plaza in Oakwood hosted the first Staten Island site of Rumble Boxing, the celebrity-endorsed group fitness concept with over 350 locations nationwide. Celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Justin Beiber, and Kevin Hart have helped the boutique boxing-inspired workout concept, which was founded in 2017, get social media exposure. Rumble, which is well-known for its water-filled teardrop boxing bags and six-punch combinations, splits its classes between resistance strength circuits and skills-and-drills exercises, which are given in 45-minute, 10-round workouts.
Parker Warby
In June, the well-known eyewear brand Warby Parker opened a location in the Staten Island Mall.Originally established in 2010 as an online retailer, the company currently has more than 200 physical stores in the US and Canada. Premiere Pickleball’s Dink Den

Cookies with Crumbs
This well-known cookie company opened its first location on Staten Island in Charleston in October 2023, and in June it moved to West Brighton. In accordance with a business policy that promotes employee family time, the cookie shop is open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays and closed on Sundays. Only six variations are available in-store, and five tastes are released every Sunday via the company’s social media channels. If you’re new to the brand, you should be aware that the menu changes every week. The Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chunk is the sixth flavor, and it’s ALWAYS available.
Soon to be released: BJ’s
In Charleston, BJ’s Wholesale Club, a top membership warehouse operator in the country, is building its first Staten Island branch, taking over the property that was formerly occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond and Christmas Tree Shops. Although the business has not yet announced a big opening date, preparations are already under way: A tire center now takes up the Christmas Tree Shops square footage, Harmon Beauty has been replaced with a curbside pickup bay, and the store’s main entrance has been cut out in the old Bed Bath & Beyond area.
