Gerber recalls teething sticks after complaints of children choking

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has filed a recall warning for Gerber teething sticks, citing a possible choking hazard for infants and young children.

Following consumer concerns of choking accidents, Gerber Products Company began a recall and discontinued production of all batches of Gerber Soothe N Chew Teething Sticks.

There has only been one recorded ER visit to date.

The teething sticks were sent to retail locations in a number of states, including New York, and disseminated online across the country.

Among the recalled goods are:

  • GERBER SOOTHE N CHEW TEETHING STICKS STRAWBERRY APPLE, Net Wt. 3.2 Oz (90g), with UPC 0 15000 04618 7, all lot codes

  • GERBER SOOTHE N CHEW TEETHING STICKS BANANA, Net Wt. 3.2 Oz (90g), with UPC 0 15000 04608 8, all lot codes

  • GERBER SOOTHE N CHEW TEETHING STICKS BANANA, Net Wt. 1.59 Oz (45g), with UPC 0 15000 01015 7, all lot codes

The strawberry apple and banana kinds of teething sticks are the only ones affected by this recall and discontinuance.

The Gerber firm said on its website that it deeply regrets any worry or trouble this move may have caused parents, caregivers, and retail customers.

Customers who bought the recalled products can return them to the merchant for a complete refund, but they should not give them to their children.

A health care professional should be contacted by anyone who is worried about an illness or injury. Gerber can be reached around-the-clock at 1-800-4-GERBER (1-800-443-7237) for any further assistance that may be required.
