New York’s Staten Island. Do you want to earn some money while also assisting New York City in getting out of the snow?
The employment of Emergency Snow Shovelers for the final month of 2024 and into the bitterly cold months of 2025 was announced earlier this month by the New York City Department of Sanitation.
Per diem laborers known as emergency snow shovelers clear snow and ice from the streets, fire hydrants, crosswalks, and bus stations following significant snowfalls. According to a written statement, snow shovelers begin their work at $18.54 per hour and increase to $27.81 per hour after 40 hours in a week.
With snow on the horizon, here might be your chance to earn additional cash while also giving back to your community.
The following statement lists the requirements to apply for this position:
-
At least 18-years-old
-
Eligible to work in America
-
Can accomplish heavy physical labor
You can register to be an emergency snow shoveler if you fulfill all three requirements. The statement enumerates every item and form of identification required for application, such as:
-
Two small photos (1 square)
-
Original and copy of two forms of identification
-
Social Security card
You must carry the aforementioned goods because registration appointments take place in sanitary garages.

The agency did, however, offer a warning if you were thinking that these emergency snow shovelers would spare you the trouble of getting dressed to shovel sidewalks and pathways.
“The Department reminds all residents, businesses, and property owners that they are responsible for keeping their sidewalks clear and accessible while emergency snow shovelers remove snow and ice from public, pedestrian areas,” the statement cautioned.
Although Staten Island experienced brief snowflakes and moderate hail in early December, the five boroughs have not yet experienced any significant snowfall this season.
