GM recalling 132K trucks: If you have one of these vehicles, bring it to your dealer ASAP

132,037 trucks are being recalled by General Motors (GM) because of defective tailgates that unexpectedly unlatch.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD 2500, 3500, and 2024 GMC Sierra HD 2500, 3500 trucks are among the models that are impacted by GM’s recall.

The electronic gate-release system of the tailgate may short circuit, allowing the tailgate to open when the car is in park.

According to the NHTSA, GM is not aware of any reported collisions or injuries linked to this problem in the cars made during this production period.

Before driving, the group recommends owners of the impacted cars to ensure the tailgate is closed and firmly fastened.

To get the problem fixed, owners can take their impacted cars to their neighborhood dealers.

After examining the trucks, dealers will replace the external touchpad switch components if needed, at no additional expense to the owner.

On November 26, 2024, GM informed dealers about the recall; on January 13, 2025, GM will begin informing owners.
