Head-on crash ends with near $500K settlement for plaintiff, former Staten Islander

New York’s Staten Island. A man hurt in a head-on collision in 2022 will get $475,000 as part of a settlement agreed upon by the state Supreme Court in St. George.

Although both the plaintiff and the other motorist had ties to Staten Island, the collision happened in Brooklyn’s Bath Beach neighborhood two years ago.

The Chelli and Bush law firm represented the plaintiff, Adrian Budzaku, who is currently 26 years old and was formerly from New Dorp.

Geico Insurance represented the car’s owner, Laifun Wong, 52, and the other driver, King Wong, 54, of Dongan Hills.

The plaintiff sustained injuries to his knee and shoulder in 2022 and 2023, respectively, necessitating surgery; according to records, he has since relocated to New Jersey.

The defendants were represented by the Westbury, New York-based Law Office of Nicole Lesperance, who chose not to comment on the matter. The settlement is being paid by Geico Insurance.

According to court filings, Budzaku was stopped at a red light in his 2013 Chevrolet pickup truck at Cropsey Avenue close to 25th Avenue at around 12 a.m. on April 16, 2022.

According to the lawsuit, Wong was operating Laifun’s 2016 Volkswagen when he changed lanes and collided with the plaintiff head-on.

According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff missed months of work as a supervisor for a Staten Island construction and remodeling company because of his injuries, which prevented him from performing material, customary, and ordinary acts.
