STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Motivated by the friendly-fire death of NYPD Det. Brian Simonsen in 2019, Governor Kathy Hochul recently signed legislation requiring service providers to disable stolen cell phones.

The Albany delegation from Staten Island provided bipartisan support, which enabled the widely-supported law to across the finish line before Hochul’s signature on November 26.
