High school girls basketball coach allegedly sexually assaulted teen, N.J. officials say

According to authorities, a 35-year-old Monmouth County high school basketball coach and teacher has been charged with sexually assaulting a minor.

According to a statement released by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday, Ocean Township resident Justin McGhee, 35, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

McGhee is Middletown High School North’s assistant football coach, health and physical education teacher, and girls basketball coach. The district has put him on administrative leave.

According to court documents, the victim was between the ages of 16 and 17 when the alleged sexual attacks started last year.

According to court documents, McGhee was being held at the Monmouth County jail. On Wednesday, his lawyer was not immediately available for comment.

When district administrators learned about the accusations, McGhee was placed on administrative leave, according to Middletown Superintendent Jessica Alfone.

Since this is a police issue, we are unable to comment further. But during this process, we will continue to cooperate closely with law enforcement and support our children as needed, Alfone said in a statement.

Anyone with information regarding McGhee is requested to contact Detective Ricardo Cruz of the Middletown Police Department at 732-615-2120 or Detective David Sidorakis of the prosecutor’s office at 800-533-7443.
