Hockey event raises money for charity in memory of Staten Island man, 31, who died in crash

New York’s Staten Island. $2,500 was donated for charity through a roller hockey fundraiser in memory of a 31-year-old Eltingville man who died in a motorcycle accident.

On December 7, the Jimmy Barry Winter Classic in Edison, New Jersey, drew at least 150 attendees.

The purpose of the event was to generate funds for St. Christopher’s Inn, a recovery community and residential drug rehab facility located in Garrison, New York.

The Tom Needham Foundation organized it. The event was organized by Tommy Needham, the founder’s son, in memory of his late cousin James Jimmy Barry.

On July 20, Barry passed away one day after his motorcycle accident.

People wore blue sweaters. in honor of Barry’s favorite color. Barry’s close friend Needham called the incident “impactful.”

We were all impacted by Jimmy’s death, yet he was able to unite us all, Needham added. Although it was a big task, it was definitely worth it.

The Tom Needham Fall Classic was the previous name of the Jimmy Barry Winter Classic for St. Christopher. It took place in Edison’s Inman Sports Complex.

“All proceeds from the event went to St. Christopher’s Inn,” Needham said.

According to a recent report by Advance/SILive.com, the residential recovery community serves approximately 1,000 men each year.

Eight hockey teams competed in this year’s competition, which was a double elimination format.

A To Z Services LLC-sponsored Team Sharknado and Keller Williams Realty associate broker Cheryl Taratko-sponsored Team Penguins competed for the Larry Greenberg Championship trophy, with Sharknado winning via shootout.

Sharknado players James Antonuicci and Sean McAllister took home the Luann Gentile Goalie Championship trophy and the Derek Gano MVP Championship trophy, respectively.

A customized goalie helmet with scratch-offs, 50/50, and Lotto scratch-off baskets were among the raffle prizes offered at the event.
