Holiday candy recall announced by FDA

According to a recall notice published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Gardners Candies’ Cappuccino Meltaway bars are being recalled because they may contain cashews that were not stated and could endanger consumers who have a tree nut allergy or extreme sensitivity.

The Cappuccino Meltaway bars that Gardners Candies of Tyrone, PA is recalling were shipped to retailers across the country and sold by mail starting on September 1.

The company found that cashew-containing items were being offered in packaging that failed to alert consumers to the presence of tree nuts, which prompted the recall. This resulted from a malfunction in the business’s packaging and production procedures.

The 1.25 ounce white plastic packaging in which the impacted candy bars were marketed has lot number 082725 stamped upon the side, along with the expiration date of August 27, 2025.

Additionally, a Gardners Meltaway Treat Box bearing lot numbers 101625 or 112525 contained the candy can. Each Meltaway Treat Box comes in a holiday gift box containing two Cappuccino Meltaway bars and additional flavors.

No illnesses linked to the recall have been recorded as of yet.

Candy bar production has been halted until the issue has been properly resolved by the company.

For a replacement, anyone who bought one of the Christmas treat boxes or individual packages can contact the Gardners Candies corporate office at 1-800-242-2639.
