Do you have a Pyrex glass measuring cup?
Then, keep a look out for a check from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) that will arrive in the mail.
A news statement states that because these measuring cups were sold as Made in the USA but were actually made in China, the FTC is returning more than $88,000 to customers who bought them around 2021.
During the COVID-19 outbreak, Instant Brands saw a surge in demand for their baking supplies, including this glassware, according to Manufacturing Dive. But the business was unable to meet local demand, so it moved production abroad without altering the products’ Made in the USA label.
In a statement last year, Samuel Levine, head of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, stated that consumers depend on marketers to make genuine Made in USA claims. Marketers must amend their advertising to reflect any temporary relocation of their manufacturing outside of the United States.
The press release continues by detailing the agency’s 2023 action against parent business Instant Brands for deceptively promoting the manufacturing location of these more than 110,000 measuring cups. Instant Brands consented to a settlement that included paying a financial judgment and stopping promoting false product claims.
