STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The 2025 season of IlluminArt Productions’ Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) will include a program of shows that are meant to inspire and engage, according to organizers.
Pinkalicious the Musical, a fanciful journey that follows the character Pinkalicious, whose love of pink cupcakes leads to an unexpected change, opens the season. It is suited for children ages 2 and up.
Ariel Marcus-Hollenbeck is the director of the production, which will open at New Dorp Moravian Church on Saturday, March 22 and Sunday, March 23 at 2:00 p.m. Interpretation will be provided in American Sign Language.
On Saturday, there will be more performances. The Staten Island Playhouse at the Empire Outlets in St. George will host a sensory-friendly performance on Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6 at 2 p.m. and at 11 a.m. on March 29 and Sunday, March 30.
The season then continues in September with Furry Tails with a Twist, a show that is appropriate for children aged five and above. In this participatory performance, which is directed by Liz Carlin, storytellers Sam and Alex retell famous tales like Goldisocks and The Three Billy Trolls Gruff.
The municipal libraries on Staten Island will host free Saturday performances of this production all month long.
The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical, an adventure that brings Rick Riordan’s best-selling book to life with music, humor, and mythology, is a great way to close the season. It is suggested for audiences aged 8 and above.
Percy Jackson sets off on a mission to recover the lightning bolt that Zeus stole. It is scheduled to open at the Staten Island Playhouse at the Empire Outlets on Saturday, November 1, Sunday, November 2, and Sunday, November 8, at 2 p.m. and at 11 a.m., respectively. It is directed by J. Giachetti.
“With magic, adventure, and laughter, we are thrilled to present our fourth season of Theatre for Young Audiences,” stated Producing Artistic Director Ariel Marcus-Hollenbeck.
We can’t wait to share these experiences with our community because each of these shows offers something unique to young audiences, whether it’s the excitement of a hero’s journey, the joy of storytelling, or the strength of self-expression.
Soon, tickets for the 2025 season of Theatre for Young Audiences will go on sale.
