James Acaster: Hecklers Welcome, an HBO Original comedy special, will premiere on Saturday, November 23 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
This is Acaster’s first HBO special, according to the website, and it has the comic discussing his love/hate connection with standup while accepting a good dose of crowd involvement, often known as heckling, and giving up control of his show.
With a sharp eye and unmatched wit, Acaster offers amusing meta-analysis of his own work as well as anecdotes from his early years that inspired him to become a comedian, such as his involvement in his grandmother’s spinning wheel workshop at school and his imitation of Prince Charles when he was six years old.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE SHOW
Acaster explores what first brought him to the theater and what keeps him there while performing live in front of an audience at the Royal & Derngate theatre in Northampton, England.
“This was the most enjoyable special I’ve ever filmed, and I’m thrilled it’s coming to HBO,” Acaster said, referring to the experience of performing in the round, in a theater I attended as a child, with the audience joining in whenever they felt like it. Additionally, I don’t want my trampoline jump onto the stage to go unrecognized.
We’ve been fans of James for a long time and are very excited to collaborate with him, says Nina Rosenstein, executive vice president, HBO Programming, Late Night & Specials. James has never been one to approach his comedy in a conventional manner, but this special is a daring idea. Few comedians would openly encourage hecklers to interrupt a live tape of their set, and even fewer would permit them to attend their gigs. James explores his complex connection with comedy in the hilarious and delightfully bizarre hour-long film HECKLERS WELCOME, which was filmed in his birthplace somewhere in the middle of England.
