Jets coach/GM candidate list now includes former Giants legend, and an exec who rebuilt perennial loser

The Jets are to blame for many things. However, you can’t hold it against them for being meticulous in their hunt for a new general manager and coach.

With more than 25 names on the list, the Jets have enough potential applicants for the two available positions to field a full offense and defense. On Wednesday, two more were added to this list:

Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who led the Giants to two Super Bowls in the same role, was a familiar face to local football fans when the Jets asked him to do an interview.

Chris Spielman, a former linebacker for the Lions who served as the owner’s special assistant and oversaw the team’s transformation from a recurrent loser to a Super Bowl contender, is also scheduled to interview with the Jets. An intriguing twist to his candidacy is that his brother, former Vikings general manager Rick Spielman, is assisting the Jets in finding a new coach and general manager through the work of media/football analytics firm The 33rd Team.
