Jets interview TV analyst for GM job | Here are all the known candidates

With the 2024 season coming to a close, the Jets are continuing their search for a new general manager and coach.

Louis Riddick, an ESPN commentator with front-office experience with the Commanders and Eagles, was disclosed as the subject of their fourth known interview with a general manager candidate Thursday night.

The Jets also had interviews with Jim Nagy, the Senior Bowl director, former Titans general manager Jon Robinson, and former Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff last month.

With the season coming to a close in less than a week, expect the list to increase significantly, particularly in terms of coaching candidates.

Despite lacking general manager experience, Riddick is the most well-known applicant they have interviewed thus far due to his frequent involvement dissecting the NFL on ESPN.

The 55-year-old has played for Pitt as a safety and running back in college. He also went to interviews for the vacant general manager positions with the Texans and the Lions. In 2022, he reportedly had an interview for the position of general manager with the Steelers.

Riddick worked in NFL personnel departments for over ten years before to joining ESPN in 2013. He began his career with Washington as a pro scout from 2001 to 2007 and then added director of pro personnel duties from 2005 to 2007.

He began working for the Eagles as a scout in 2008, rose to the position of assistant director of pro personnel in 2009, and served as the team’s director of pro personnel from 2010 to 2013.

The Jets website states that owner Woody Johnson is in the lead in the hunt for a head coach and general manager. Two days after the Jets’ Week 5 loss to the Vikings in London reduced the team to 2-3, Johnson dismissed coach Robert Saleh. Prior to Sunday’s final game against the Dolphins, the Jets had lost 11 of their previous 13 games. In November, Johnson fired general manager Joe Douglas.

The team hired The 33rd Team, a media firm run by former general manager Mike Tannenbaum, last month to help find applicants and set up interviews for both positions. Tannenbaum led the search with assistance from former Vikings general manager Rick Spielman, who assisted the Commanders with their search for a coach and general manager a year prior.

The Jets are finishing the season with the longest ongoing skid in major North American professional sports—14 straight seasons without a postseason appearance.
