Lake-effect storm blasts New York region with over 5 feet of snow

After two weeks without classes due to a lake-effect snowstorm that postponed schools on the first Monday back, some Central New York students were granted an extended holiday break.

During a multi-day blizzard, Camden, located in northern Oneida County, was covered with an astounding 65 inches of snow, more than five feet by Sunday. The flakes continued to fall.

On Sunday afternoon, Oneida County announced a state of emergency. This week, Central New York has had another lake effect storm, which has increased the amount of snow in the region.

People in Camden and the neighboring areas gathered their shovels, wrapped themselves in blankets, and posted stunning images and videos of the snow on social media.

Many posted pictures of cars that were hardly visible beneath massive mounds of snow, and some asked seriously, while others joked, whether any teens would be interested in earning some extra money by unearthing their snow-buried cars.

Here are a few of the weekend’s most outrageous snow scenes. Want to share some pictures or videos? Tag @newyorkupstate on Instagram or TikTok, or send to [email protected].

Nearly four feet of snow fell in Camden, New York.

I’ve spent my entire life here, and I can assure you that winters like these are as uncommon as my New Year’s goals that don’t last past January. When we last experienced a blizzard like this, I was still a child and was attempting to construct the ugliest snowman in the world. Mother Nature hasn’t had a tantrum like this in at least 12 years!#SnowMuchFun #WinterThrowback#NostalgiaWithFrostbite
